Recently, the 48th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions 2023 closed in Geneva, Switzerland. The research project of School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University won the highest level award of this year’s invention exhibition – “Special Jury Commendation Gold Medal”, realizing a historic breakthrough.
Founded in 1973 and jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Swiss Federal Government, the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (GIEI) is one of the world’s longest-running and largest invention exhibitions, with awards such as the Jury’s Special Mention Gold Medal, the Gold Medal, the Silver Medal and the Bronze Medal. The Invention Exhibition attracted nearly 1,000 new inventions from more than 40 countries and regions, and the 165 invention projects exhibited by the Chinese delegation attracted much attention.
Beijing Jiaotong University, Institute of Advanced Grinding and Precision Machining of College of Mechanical and Electrical Research completed the scientific research project “the first lithium-driven rail belt grinding equipment”, for high-speed, general speed, heavy-duty, plateau and alpine railroads, as well as subways, streetcars and other wheeled rail transportation system rail maintenance of complex special needs, for the first time, put forward a completely independent of intellectual property rights, high efficiency and green belt grinding equipment. It is the first time to put forward the new technology of efficient and green grinding of rail sanding belt with fully independent intellectual property rights, which breaks the monopoly of foreign countries.
Compared with the traditional internal combustion wheel grinding equipment, the developed equipment can significantly improve the grinding efficiency by more than 3-5 times, and at the same time, it has many advantages such as good grinding quality, small vibration, low noise, low energy consumption, and adaptability to the hypoxic conditions of the plateau of more than 4,000 meters above sea level, etc., and it has been widely used in railroad and urban rail transit system, which has produced significant economic and social benefits.
